NEWCare is seeking applicants for a part-time, day shift Cook position.  In a long term care facility the Cook is responsible to prepare and cook large quantities of food for the residents.  Dietary staff are frequently co-mingled with the residents as they perform their duties.  This requires the applicant to be compassionate and respectful of the residents and to help provide a calm atmosphere.  This relationship with the residents can be very gratifying as well.  Other responsibilities include:

  • Portioning and serving food to facility residents, patients and employees.
  • Cleaning and inspecting equipment, kitchen appliances, and work areas to ensure cleanliness and functional operation.
  • Cook foodstuffs according to menus, special dietary or nutritional restrictions, or numbers of portions to be served.
  • Train new employees.
  • Wash pots, pans, dishes, utensils, and other cooking equipment when necessary to assist Dietary Aide.

This is a part-time position which includes Paid Time Off (PTO) and 401k benefits.  Full-time, 30 hours or more, may be possible by working in another department.  Full-time benefits include PTO, 401k and health, dental and life insurance.

The position is a great introduction to long term care and may serve as a springboard for those interested in pursuing a care giving position.
